A letter sent to the SOS Website in July 2011 from Staff Sergeant B.
I cannot explain my gratitude right now. The last few days I have been blessed to spend time with Ms. St Clair. She is amazing. Every one the cards from Saint John’s Church are exactly the motivation that we needed. McDonald’s coffee - (THANK YOU - THANK YOU) - that was our every morning drink for 6 months. Thank you for every bit of the dry food and goodies that were sent in every (exciting) package was a comfort (and a belly filler) that true American people still support our every task and condition. Thank you so so much.
Mary just brought back a wool beanie; I think it would be a great idea to send to all soldiers during the cold months. The temperature is miserable, but we always pull through. There are no heaters (most of the time) and we are lucky to be moving around on mission just to raise the body temperature.
And the Vietnam Vets; you know exactly what we want. Experience always shows and if you are sending to combat soldiers, we like white socks (crew socks) and if they’re in a safe zone then they have to follow regulations so they would need black. Either way, socks are socks and we appreciate every one of the socks you sent.
Frank, I got your note. Thanks for every bit of the shipping costs through your American Legion group.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Harry, at the hardware store, thanks for keeping us going!!!!!!!!!! You’re amazing!!!!!
For Chamber members, thanks for getting the boxes to the soldiers who are more than happy to serve you no matter what the expense. *********P.S.*********************
If every one of you great Americans doesn’t know, the soldiers who you all supported had a very rough environment. (We Will NEVER complain but for your knowledge). We had food flown in from an airplane. Our closest PX was a 2-day drive or a 45-minute flight. We never ever were fortunate enough to have those but we were the most fortunate. No one else had y'all as their support. Thank you so-so much. I would love to meet each and every one of y'all. I am finally finished with my military career. I will resume serving the country as a sheriff deputy in Washington D.C. My family (E. -wife, L. -son, E. -daughter) is very exited for the new life coming our way. I thank Mary, neighbors, church, Mr. Peacott's students, the Legion, and Chamber (everyone-everyone) who are by far the most qualified, amazing people who are truly selfless in her service. It would be amazing if y'all continued to strive on and take on more soldiers. We all have faith in you all. My unit has been replaced by another unit in the Afghan mountains. Their unit’s name is 3/16 Armor. It will be cold, hot, dry, and dangerous there. They are located in Baghis Prov. Their only food will be MRE's, goats, chickens, and UGR-E's. And your amazing BOXES
Thank-YOU
